Rwanda | Muhanga: Journalists take part in Umuganda

Journalists take partMore than 30 journalists from URUVUGIRO Network, together with residents of Musongati cell in Nyarusange sector carried out Umuganda in the last concluded monthly community work.

They did this on over 3hectare of land that is being prepared for the new banana plantation.Journalists, different leaders and security officials were seen in this umuganda in this sector digging terraces that will help protect the soil from being carried away incase it rains hard in this coming rainy season.

The residents of Musongati cell said “they were so happy for this act of working with the different journalists since they just hear many of them from radios but did not know them, adding on that this act of journalists joining them for this umuganda would be very productive.

Many of the journalists that participated in this act work from Kigali city and go to villages sometimes for work purposes. They were so happy to carry out this community work since sometimes they do their umuganda from their places of residence or even sometimes they are working and cannot participate in the monthly act.

These journalists who work together with the International Organization for Migration [IOM] had taken a good message to the people of this cell about the way they could prevent the human trafficking act that is rampant nowadays saying that no one should come and tell them he or she is taking them overseas or even take them to another place. This would help them get a better living.

They explained to the people how human traffickers can come and tell them how they are going to lead a good life, how they are going to get money, jobs among others. They will also show you how much they have liked you and how they are going to gain from taking you overseas.

People should always give information on anything that affects them like child abuse, and human trafficking and also to always use the good governance prevailing since such problems are looked at by all the government organizations.

In a meeting they had with the head of police in Muhanga sector, the residents were asked to always keep peace in their area, to avoid drunkenness, and all sorts of drug abuse and also to always give information of such acts in their area

The official from the minister of public service and labor Bonaventure Uwamahoro asked people who participated in this Umuganda to, always take good care since they are the wealth of the nation in the act of human dignity.
