Orinfor scoops almost all RGB Awards

Government owned information institution Orinfor journalists dominated Rwanda Governance Board Awards on Wednesday at Serena Hotel.

RGB registered a total of 38 nominees from both private and public media outlets, 23 journalists came from private media institutions, 15 came from public institution Orinfor.

The event was graced by government dignitaries including minister in charge of information affairs, Hon. James Musoni who gave a key note to the journalists.

“Good journalism will always reward in Rwanda as one way to promote media sector, which is transforming currently in our country based on impacts of the stories to the public” said Hon. James Musoni

He added that these awards are small incentives aimed at empowering local journalists that have real changed the society through their stories with depth analysis.

The team of about seven judges including three judges specialized in journalism and communication were tasked to judge stories from the initial 38 stories submitted to the competition.

The judges based on five criterias choose the winners that included outstanding average of national development, Ethics, stories that were genuine not copied from other information sources and the impact of the story towards the society, depth analysis.

Six categories awarded like Green, Business, Investigative, Life style, sports for both print, broadcast and online.

Despite submitting in few numbers, Orinfor journalists walked home with lots of awards and cash in dollars than private journalists that submitted in full gear.

Out of 9 awarded journalists, only three journalists from private media outlets are, Niyifasha Didace from Radio 10 as best sports journalist of the year, Didier Bikorimana, for a published gender article, gender article and Jean Damascene from Rwanda focus.

The prizes won included 2000-3000$, awards and a surprise award from African editors worth 3500$, which was scooped by Marie Rose Mukayiranga, from Orinfor and Morris Ufitinema as 1st runner up.
