Rwanda : REMA to award best environmental journalist

Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) will be awarding best media practitioner that has created awareness, protection and mitigate environment challenges through articles and programs.

The award is meant to motivate journalists to put much focus on environmental issues rather than politics because environment protects society as well the world at large.

However, REMA will only recognize in particular a journalist in print/broadcasting that has contributed a better understanding of values and benefits of environmental protection, management and climate mitigation/ adaption through mass media.

According to the official announcement on REMA website, the winner’s article or program will be judged on impacts to the society as far as environment is concerned.

REMA will also award other two categories outside media sector that played a big role towards protecting environment in rural areas, the categories includes:

District award: the award will recognize the districts that have environmental committees fully operational and have achieved best performance in the implementation of their environmental issues in the (IMIHIGO 2012/13).

Environmental Organization: this ward will recognize community based organizations/ Cooperative that have shown innovation and good practice in protecting environment, energy resources efficiency, natural resource management and climate change mitigation/ adaption.

All the above categories will be judged by the panel of experts from different government organizations like MHC, RALGA, REMA, MINRENA, MINALOC, EWSA, RGB as well as independent experts.
